pacifier chain knowledge

What are pacifier chains and how are pacifier chains used?

Pacifier chains are a great way to prevent the loss of that all-important pacifier - no more annoying dropping or long searches. This makes the pacifier chain one of the "must have" baby accessories, as it will make life much easier for you and your child. You can find the pacifier much more easily and it doesn't fall onto the dirty floor so easily, which means no more dirty pacifiers. The favorite comforter of almost all babies is always within easy reach and the child can be calmed down quickly and safely.

The homemade pacifier holder can be adapted to your own needs, for example in terms of length and design. Pacifier chains can therefore be customized very easily. This makes it easy to give this important baby accessory a personal touch and create a great, unique item. This is important because it significantly reduces the risk of the pacifier being confused with another one when visiting daycare or on playgrounds, etc.

When it comes to design, there are a variety of options for pacifier chain materials and accessories, such as the fastening clips and the wooden beads. There are pacifier chain clips in many different colors and different shapes. Colorful wooden discs with great motifs or sayings are also available. The pacifier chain beads have different shapes such as half rings, animals such as foxes or ducks, cars, stars, footballs, flowers and so on. There are also really cute pacifier chain bells made of metal, which children and babies really enjoy. pacifier chain-pacifier chain-pacifier holder-kathi-kunterbunt

How do you make your own pacifier chains?

A pacifier chain is very easy to make yourself, with relatively little effort. The construction or crafting time is around 10 to 15 minutes. Important safety note: For reasons of child safety, the pacifier chain may not exceed a length of 22cm without a clip, otherwise there is a risk of strangulation. All work must be carried out carefully and the durability must be checked before use, as children also pull hard on this extremely useful accessory. If not processed correctly, there is a risk of suffocation from small parts.

In the first step, it is best to arrange the pacifier chain elements in the order in which they are to be strung. The elements can be moved and arranged until everything looks harmonious and the result is convincing. A safety bead is ideally used to finish it off. This has an enlarged hole on one side into which the knot disappears, so that it is protected and no longer visible. This is only a recommendation and not a must, otherwise the knot will be accessible and visible.

In the second step, the beads and elements can be threaded onto the string. This can be done directly onto a suitable cord, such as a polyester or satin cord or an elastic band, or a needle and string can be used. The cord should be doubled to secure it and to provide more stability and tear resistance. The length of the cord on both sides should be around 25cm to 30cm, as the knots and loops cause length to be lost.

To do this, the string that is already in the needle is attached to the loop of the doubled cord with a knot. The needle with the cord is then pulled through the beads and elements in the correct order and these are then threaded onto the string. Once all the individual elements have been correctly lined up, the string can be untied with the needle as they are no longer needed. A knot is now made on the loop side and the beads are pushed back to the knot. If a safety bead is used, this fits nicely hidden in the recess in the bead. Now it's the turn of the side with the loose ends. First a half knot is made and then the clip is threaded onto the string. This is closed at the end with a double knot. The two protruding ends of the cord are carefully shortened to the knot and this is then carefully welded using a lighter to prevent the knot from coming loose.

Finally, it is absolutely necessary to carry out a tensile and stability test to ensure that everything is correctly positioned and, above all, is held firmly. Please pay particular attention to the knot, as this is the weak point of such a pacifier holder. If the chain is used intensively, please check it regularly for signs of material fatigue and replace it immediately if necessary.

What should be considered regarding the safety of pacifier chains?

When manufacturing pacifier chains, DIN EN 12586 must be observed. This means that the maximum length of the pacifier chain without a clip must not exceed 22cm, otherwise there is an acute risk of strangulation for the baby or child. For safety reasons, this length must not be exceeded under any circumstances.

What quality criteria are there for pacifier chains and pacifier chain accessories?

We send high-quality pacifier chain material and accessories in the best brand quality which is safe for children and babies and therefore ideally suited. It is very important that the wooden beads and clips are colored with sweat and saliva-resistant and, above all, harmless colors. They must therefore meet the European safety standard for toy safety EN 71-3:2019 for "migration of certain elements". Our pacifier chain accessories meet these criteria and are also mainly produced and manufactured in Germany.

To clean a pacifier chain, simply use a damp cloth. For the sake of your child, avoid using strong cleaning products.
