An application or applique is generally a particularly decoratively produced style element or textile detail that is applied or attached to the object to be decorated. The application usually has a different material or a different manufacturing method in order to stand out artistically and achieve a special tactile and visual effect.

What is the purpose and area of ​​application of applications?

There are a variety of applications in the textile sector, as these are currently very trendy. An application has various functions, which are listed below:

When it comes to appliqués, there are various options such as gluing, sewing and ironing, which we will outline below so that you know before you make your purchase decision whether the respective appliqué is really suitable for your project.

What should I keep in mind when using iron-on appliqués?

As a rule, the motif is covered with your cloth. This is then ironed on for around 60 seconds, applying pressure. Level 2 on the iron is usually recommended for this. Then iron briefly from the back. For delicate fabrics that are not suitable for ironing, it is better to sew them on. Iron-on transfers can usually be washed at up to 40°C without any problems. However, in addition to the general explanation, the manufacturer's respective recommendations for application and care should be followed.

What should I keep in mind when sewing on appliqués?

Most appliqués can be sewn on easily by hand or using a sewing machine. For finished appliqués, a straight stitch or a narrow zigzag stitch is best. The danger when sewing, especially with a sewing machine, is that the image will slip. This can be fixed and counteracted with pins or clips.

What do I have to consider when sticking on applications?

Applying by gluing takes the least amount of time, you generally don't need any other tools such as an iron or sewing machine and it is the cleanest option. However, the durability of applications that are only glued on is much shorter than with the other two application methods. Therefore, we recommend this type of application only for decorative purposes, for items that are not subject to a lot of wear and tear and are not used on a daily basis.
