On the front, the fabric mostly looks like jersey and on the inside there is a soft pile made of loops. One advantageous difference to jersey, for example, is that the cut edges roll up and in less and that these textiles do not wrinkle as much, making them very pleasant to work with, which will delight not only sewing beginners.

How is French Terry properly processed and cared for?

What needs to be taken into account when cutting French Terry fabric by the meter?

Like most textiles, French terry should be washed before cutting/processing, as these fabrics often shrink the first time they are washed, especially if they have a high cotton content. When it comes to cutting, you should always pay attention to the grain of the fabric in addition to the motif, so that the garment fits well after sewing. The aim is to have the elasticity or stretch across the width of the garment. To do this, it is recommended to pull the fabric apart at the opposite corners and check for elasticity. French terry sold by the meter is a bi-elastic material, which means that it is not absolutely necessary to pay attention to the grain of this fabric.

How is French Terry sewn?

French terry fabric is very easy to work with. We recommend using a stretch or jersey needle for sewing, which you can also order here. The slightly rounded needle tip means that these needles glide better through the holes in the fabric and thus protect the knitted structure. French terry is wonderfully easy to sew with a normal sewing machine or an overlock machine. It is not necessary to finish the fabric.

How do you properly care for French Terry fabric?

When using detergent, make sure that it does not contain bleach in order to protect the colors, otherwise the self-sewn item may fade quickly.

French terry can be ironed with a conventional iron up to 110°C, preferably without steam. As it is a textile with a high cotton content, tumble drying is not recommended.
