How are Kathi Kunterbunt fabric in-house productions properly processed and cared for?

What needs to be considered when cutting the wood?

Fabrics used in your own sewing projects should always be washed before cutting or sewing, as the high cotton content often causes them to shrink slightly after the first wash, which may result in them not fitting properly after drying. The intensity of this effect can vary depending on the fabric quality.

When cutting fabric, the grain direction should generally be taken into account. To do this, hold the fabric at opposite corners, carefully pull it apart, and observe how the fabric behaves. The goal is to achieve elasticity across the width of the garment so that the finished garment fits well and moves comfortably.

Furthermore, before cutting, you should consider where the motif should be seen and how it needs to be oriented so that it is not upside down or only half visible afterwards.

What do I need to consider when sewing Kathi Kunterbunt's own designs?

Our in-house fabrics can be sewn and processed with both a standard sewing machine and an overlock machine, depending on the chosen material. For French terry and jersey fabrics, we recommend jersey sewing needles, which are also available in our shop, as their rounded tips are less likely to damage the fabric structure.

What should be considered when caring for fabrics produced in-house?

To preserve the colors and shape, it is recommended to wash the fabrics by hand or on a gentle cycle at 30°C. It is important to use a detergent without bleach to prevent the colors from fading.

Fabrics produced in-house are generally ironable on setting 1 up to 110°C, preferably without steam. To maintain the fit and quality in the long term, it is recommended to avoid tumble drying handmade items.

The exact care instructions can be found on the respective product page for each fabric.
