What is an application?
An appliqué , or appliqué, is generally a particularly ornate stylistic element or textile detail that is applied or attached, or appliquéd, to the object to be decorated. The appliqué usually features a different material or manufacturing method in order to stand out artistically and achieve a special tactile and visual effect.

What is the purpose and scope of applications?
The textile industry features a wide variety of appliqués , as they are currently very popular. An appliqué has various functions, which are listed below:
- They serve to enhance and decorate, for example, clothing, bags, accessories, or home furnishings.
- It is suitable, for example, for repairing holes, cracks, etc.
- are used to cover up, for example, discolorations, stains, and dirt.
- They have a protective function on sleeves and legs, such as leather patches, against chafing of heavily used or high-quality textiles.

How is the application attached, or how is it applied?
There are various ways to apply appliqués, such as gluing, sewing and ironing, which we will outline below so that you know before making a purchase decision whether the respective appliqué is really suitable for your project.
What should you consider when using iron-on appliqués?
Generally, the design is covered with a cloth. Then, it's ironed on for about 60 seconds, applying pressure. Setting 2 on the iron is usually recommended. Afterward, briefly iron again from the reverse side. For delicate fabrics that aren't suitable for ironing, it's better to sew them on. Iron-on transfers can usually be washed at up to 40°C without any problems. However, in addition to the general instructions, you should always follow the manufacturer's specific recommendations for application and care.
What should be considered when sewing on appliqués?
Most appliqués can be easily sewn on by hand or with a sewing machine. For ready-made appliqués, a straight stitch or a narrow zigzag stitch is recommended. The danger when sewing, especially with a sewing machine, is that the appliqué can shift; this can be prevented by using pins or clips to secure it.
What do I need to consider when applying appliqués?
Applying appliqués by gluing them on takes the least time; you generally don't need any additional tools like an iron or sewing machine, and it's the neatest method. However, appliqués that are only glued on are significantly less durable than those applied using the other two methods. Therefore, we recommend this type of appliqué primarily for decorative purposes, on items that aren't subject to heavy wear and tear, and that aren't used every day.
