What is an eyelet and what is its function?
An eyelet is typically a ring made of rubber, plastic, or metal, serving a fastening, reinforcing, or protective function. It consists of two parts: a bottom and a top, which are anchored together. This is achieved either by punching a hole beforehand or by using the eyelet and washer itself, which has teeth that allow it to penetrate the material. Eyelets with washers are usually secured by striking or pressing them together, utilizing the material's elasticity. This can be done with either a hammer or eyelet pliers. Additional plastic washers are also available, which can be placed between the eyelet and the material to protect it, especially delicate fabrics. Eyelets can reinforce openings and holes. The smooth surface of the eyelet also protects items threaded through it from damage caused by otherwise rough surfaces.
Where are eyelets and rivets used?
Eyelets with washers are often used on clothing. A hook can then be attached to close the garment. The closure can be made not only with hooks but also with cords. Eyelets and rivets are also frequently used on bags. For example, you can easily and quickly insert eyelets into bags to attach the handles with rivets. They are also a wonderful way to decorate and enhance clothing and other items. Rivets are commonly used on clothing to reinforce seams, such as on jeans. On accessories like bags, they are more often used to attach handles and tabs. The great thing is, no sewing is required. Rivets and eyelets are mostly among Prym's sew-free products, which make it incredibly easy to embellish your belongings. You can effortlessly create fantastic decorative accents in no time. Eyelets and rivets are also very popular in the crafting world. In outdoor activities, they are well-suited for tents, tarpaulins, and other items that are fastened with laces or hooks. In the home, they are suitable for curtains and other furnishings. Popular examples of use include:
- bag
- Bras
- Blouses
- cases
- Shirts
- Hoodies
- Jackets

- Jogging pants
- Corsets

What should be considered when buying rivets and eyelets?
How are eyelets attached and what are the differences in size?
Rivets and eyelets with washers are often sew-free products that are generally easy to apply. They come in various sizes, allowing for many different uses. The necessary tools for installation are usually included, so all you need is your own hammer.
However, you still have several options for attaching the eyelets. The smaller sizes, from 4.5mm to 8mm, can easily be attached using other tools of your choice, such as the Vario pliers or other striking tools like the ergonomic tripod. For eyelets larger than 8mm, you should use the included special tool and your own hammer. When attaching the eyelets, it's important to position them so they don't rotate on the fabric; this ensures they are secure and won't tear out easily.
However, there are also eyelets that can be sewn on. These eyelets are already fixed in a backing material such as faux leather. The patch is then simply sewn onto this backing.
Eyelets and rivets come in various materials, sizes, and colors to choose from. This allows you to give your projects an individual touch and create unique accents.
How are rivets attached and what are they suitable for?
Universal rivets and hollow rivets are available in various designs and sizes. The head size and pin length are crucial for the specific application. The longer the pin, the thicker the material that can be riveted. The necessary tool for installation is included in the package; you will only need your own hammer. Different sizes and materials allow for various looks and styles.
What are Power Dots used for?
For delicate fabrics, these handy little helpers prevent eyelets and snaps from tearing open. The Power Dots are simply ironed onto the wrong side of the fabric. Once ironed on, the Power Dot is firmly bonded to the fabric. It is then no longer visible, as it is covered by the fasteners. Especially with fine, single-layer fabrics, these helpers provide extra protection and therefore added security. They are also suitable for easily repairing torn-out snaps and eyelets.
